This is truly the Best Banana Bread ever! It is one of my favourite recipes! A wonderful snack for the kids, or delicious for breakfast with your coffee or tea, and a wonderful accompaniment for a tea or gathering! Whenever we have over-ripe bananas in the house, we use this recipe!
Often times I make it with dread, because I know I won’t be able to refuse a slice (or three), especially when I’m trying to be good and cut back on sugar and wheat! On this note, if you are caeliac or react to gluten, you can replace the flour with gluten-free flour. There are some great gluten-free varieties available these days. A good one is Orgran Gluten Free Flour from Amazon.sg. The Banana Bread will taste just as good when using the Gluten Free flour, especially if you’re used to using it.
If you would like to increase the nutritional value of this Best Banana Bread Recipe, you can add raspberries, blueberries or chopped up pear. Just make sure the pear is ripe. It is great to send to school in the kids lunchbox as it doesn’t contain any nuts.

Best Banana Bread
- 150 g Butter raw/unpasteurised where possible
- 1 cup Sugar raw, brown
- 2 medium Eggs lightly beaten
- 2 ripe Bananas peeled and mashed
- 2 cups Self-raising Flour Organic, unbleached
- 1 tsp Baking Powder
- 1/2 cup Milk
- 1/2 cup Raspberries optional
Preheat oven to 180 deg C
Grease a loaf tin
Cream the butter and sugar
Add the eggs in 2 batches
Stir in the banana
Sift the flour and baking powder over banana mixture
Add milk. Mix with wooden spoon
Fold in raspberries (if using)
Bake for 45-50 minutes
